Why Leadership Starts With You

I’ve given a lot of recent thought to the idea of leadership.
​

Given that we are in the midst of an election, with millions of voters determining the fate of who wins the presidency, there is a lot of talk on ‘leadership’ and who would be the better leader.
​

Now I’m not here to discuss politics with you, merely an observation that I’ve noticed among many. How many people consider themselves leaders?
​

They consider the president a leader, their boss a leader, and maybe even friends and co-workers as leaders, but not themselves.
​

The best members of society are leaders. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes, but they all lead their lives in a better way. A world filled with people who lead their lives in a better way is a better world.
​

So how does one define a good leader, what is the standard for leadership?

​

Simply said, a leader is someone you should follow into battle, someone who serves others with a vision, purpose, and a better path. Someone who can perform under pressure.
​

Regardless of how many people you lead, leadership starts with you. Do you lead your time, energy, and focus, or do outside distractions and other people lead you?
​

Taking charge of your life, and instilling the habits and discipline required to lead, makes you evolve into the next version of yourself, one that’s more powerful, dangerous, and capable.
