Nothing Goes According To Plan

Nothing Goes According To Plan

Hey Reader,

One thing you can count on is nothing goes according to plan. The farther out you plan, the more things change, and the more the variables are unknown. I wish I could make a 20-year plan knowing what could happen. But then again, I don’t, because life is unpredictable, life being a mystery is exactly what makes it worthwhile.

I used to think 4 years was a good balance, enough to know where you are going, but not too far out that things would change too drastically. But after everything that took place in 2024, I no longer believe that to be the case.

I am now of the belief that one year, the one-year vision is a better frame to look at what’s coming. A lot can happen in a year, but it’s enough for one to plan for what’s coming, for the direction you want to take your life in.

Plan for a year, looking at where you want to be 10 years down the road. Set quarterly goals to help you get there, with actionable measurable metrics, and get busy.

I think one of the greatest issues that high performers face is we keep thinking we need more information, when usually what we need is more action. Taking action on what we know, and learning from the mistakes we make. Fortune favors the bold.

4 Quotes I’m Pondering From Things I’m Reading

"The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it". - Marcus Aurelius

“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live". - Marcus Aurelius

“Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth because they don't want their illusions destroyed.” - Friedrich Nietzsche

Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.” - Socrates

4 Life Lessons I’ve Learned

  1. I tried is 10X more valuable than not ever starting. The worth is in the act, not the result alone.
  2. It doesn’t matter how fast you’re moving in life if you’re going in the wrong direction.
  3. Focusing on what you can’t control is a wonderful recipe for anxiety and worry
  4. You aren’t just one person, you are more like a congress of selves, different perspectives, voices, and constructs assembled into one human form, that’s what makes changing yourself both easy and difficult.
