Losing The Chains Feels Even Better After You’re Free

Losing The Chains Feels Even Better After You’re Free

Hey Reader,

Hope is a good thing…

The last words in a letter to Red, a character played by Morgan Freeman in Shawshank Redemption. A newly freed man, unsure of what to do with his life.

He spent 40 years in prison, and now that he was free, he was lost.

Maybe you feel that way because to tell you the truth, that’s how I feel.

Lost, in the middle of a storm that is my mind. The winds of my past, the waves of my present, and the ominous darkness of my future.

I wonder how everything will work out, how I could possibly control my life the way I want it to be.

But that’s falling prey to my old ways of thinking…

My old habits, my old self.

I’ve had enough of those days, of being constantly overwhelmed by my own thoughts, of battling through the rough seas.

The storms are powerful, strong, and dangerous, but they are useful, get me to act, to change, to improve.

So, now I start to wonder, what’s better than a constant fight for peace? And that’s the war for serenity, the balance of peace and anger.

What if I could harness the winds, the waves, and the night, and sail right for the eye of the storm?

I’ve freed myself from the indoctrination of society, thinking that I have to be like everyone else, and think like everyone else. I don’t wish to fit in, to be normal, to conform, and after that change, freedom has never felt so good.

But I’m not happy with good, not happy with great, I want the best. I don’t want to just compete, I want to win.

The way forward is through ruthlessness. It’s the calm in the eye of the storm. Not being controlled by fear, emotion, doubt, or the need to control everything, but focused, calm, prepared.

That’s what will set you free, that’s how you get to the next level. It combines the light with the dark, the good with the shadow, the positive with the negative.

I can’t promise you it’ll be easy, but I know it’ll be worth it.

I’ll see you on the other side.
